Abbey Hulton United 4-2 Droitwich Spa

Andy Crowther's men ended an admirable run in the Isuzu FA Vase at the 3rd Round stage of the competition; a best ever run for Droitwich Spa FC.

Having been postponed the previous week, North West Counties League Division 1 South side Abbey Hulton United and Droitwich cancelled each other out for the majority of the tie, and key moments told the story of this one with little goalmouth action throughout.

The Saltmen shaded a nip and tuck first half, but the first attempt for either side didn't arrive until the 25th minute, when Perry Moss cut in from the left flank, his low drive was parried by home 'keeper Dan Roberts into James Lemon's path, but the Spa striker hit the rebound against the cross-bar before the ball was cleared away to safety.
Aidan Blaise was lucky to escape with just a yellow card as he went in high and hard on Nathan Binner mid-way through the half, whilst on 35 minutes a Josh Hurdman free kick was comfortable handled by Roberts.

Just as the half looked to be petering out into a stalemate, Matt Bell pounced on a loose ball 25-yards from goal and hit an unstoppable strike into the roof of Rogerson's net being Abbey Hulton's only effort of the half!
With no other goalkeeping options available, Rogerson played the entire game with a broken elbow!

Droitwich started the 2nd half well and within 10 minutes were on level terms as a cross to the back post was met with aplomb by Charlie Tilley whose first time volley from close range gave Roberts no chance.

Abbey Hulton should have restored their lead when Matt Ward, just a few yards from goal, smashed an effort over the bar where it seemed simpler to score.
The Saltmen then succeeded to turn the game on it's head when James Lemon scrambled home from a few yards, but the lead lasted just 3 minutes as a United corner preceded a free header for Blaize to nod in an equaliser.

Abbey Hulton introduced Luke Walsh which changed the tide of the game; a fine individual effort from the home substitute who fired just wide, then he teed up Dan Cocks who also couldn't find the target with a powerful drive.
With three minutes remaining, a soft free kick on the edge of the Droitwich box was given away, and from the set piece the shot hit an arm in the Spa wall giving the referee no option but to point to the penalty spot, from where Cocks made no mistake.

Droitwich changed formation with the introduction of debutant Liam Livesey but on 90 minutes, with Spa committed up the pitch, a clearance was latched on to by Kieran Brown who finished well to end a tight contest and send Abbey Hulton through to the 4th Round.
