Stonehouse Town 0-4 Droitwich Spa

Droitwich Spa produced one of their best performances of the season to overcome play-off chasing Stonehouse Town at Oldends Lane on Tuesday evening; a result that puts the title of League Champions within touching distance for Andy Crowther's men who require just one more point from the remaining three games.

The game got off to a flying start for the Saltmen, as in the 2nd minute, Nathan Binner's corner was met by the head of Alex Dugmore forcing a save from home stopper Jordan Schofield, but the rebound fell to Jamie Sauntson who nodded in from a few yards out.
It was centre back Sauntson's first goal for the club in 42 appearances.

The home side made some good in-roads into the Spa defence, causing problems down both flanks, but all to often the final ball was lacking.
Droitwich were a constant threat on the counter attack, and Perry Moss capitalised on an awkward bounce for Josh Beadle to set himself for a half volley that rattled the cross-bar on 13 minutes.

The next half-chance fell to Sam Carey, who could only find the side netting from a tight angle.
Moss then put the Saltmen 0-2 ahead as he raced on to a long ball to chip the on-rushing Schofield from outside the area.

Droitwich weathered some late first half pressure from Stonehouse, defending a flurry of corners, but some well organised defending saw Dom Rogerson un-troubled.

Some more excellent organisation and game management in the second half also reduced the Magpies to just the one shot on target - a direct free kick on 87 minutes which was straight at Rogerson.

At the other end Spa were the more threatening, and Alex Dugmore added another goal to his tally on 58 minutes, when a fine ball through from Lewis Phillips sent him away to clinically finish past Schofield and into the bottom corner.

Tireless Captain James Lemon then saw a spectacular over-head kick smack the cross-bar from 10-yards out, denying him a goal of the season contender.

Josh Hurdman was introduced and caused further problems for the home defence; his powerful strike from the edge of the area was just off target, and another substitute, Ben Tilbury, pounced on some hesitant home defending 8-yards from goal, but his shot was well saved by the alert Schofield.

A third substitute, Matt Fusco, also contributed when he notched his 3rd goal of the season, and Droitwich's 100th goal in the League, to round off the scoring late on after good work from Hurdman.

Droitwich's determination, organisation and superb work rate, chasing down every opponent and every ball when comfortably in-front, gave them an impressive and fully deserved clean sheet and away victory against tough opposition, avenging the 1-3 home loss against the Magpies earlier in the season.
For Stonehouse, it was their most severe defeat of the season, and with other results going against them, they will need a miracle to finish in the play-off places.

Droitwich can officially win the League title on Saturday with a draw at Shortwood United (ko 3pm), or if Redditch Borough fail to beat Abingdon United at Cherry Tree Walk.
